Ozeki is a technically secure central midfielder with one full senior season of starter-level output in J3 and a senior Japan cap (debut 8 July 2025 vs Hong Kong), whose J1 minutes have not yet produced a sample large enough to confirm that output transfers upward.

The usage record splits cleanly in two. In 2024, on a development loan at Fukushima United in J3, he started all 32 league matches he played and logged 2,768 minutes, with 8 goals and 6 assists. Back at Kawasaki in 2025 he made 25 J1 appearances but only 3 starts, for 599 minutes (2 goals, 1 assist; small sample). In the 2026 J1 100 Year Vision League he played 5 times with 1 start, for 115 minutes (small sample). In the 2026-27 J1 season he has appeared six times with no starts, for 86 minutes (Football LAB, updated 14 September 2026), and was an unused substitute once (small sample). Combined, that is 800 J1 league minutes across two seasons, so a buyer screening J1 midfielders by minutes or per-90 output will not find him.

The cause of the J1 bench role is worth naming. Kawasaki's midfield group includes Yuki Yamamoto (山本悠樹), Kento Tachibanada (橘田健人), Yasuto Wakizaka (脇坂泰斗) and Hajime Kawahara (河原創). Limited minutes are at least partly a squad-depth outcome, not only a performance verdict, and current data cannot separate the two. His J3 season describes a midfielder who arrives in the box: 1.89 shots and 0.46 goal involvements per 90 are attacking numbers for a central player. At youth international level he has also been used deeper; Dutch commentary on his U-20 World Cup match against Egypt described him controlling the game as a defensive midfielder. The most coherent fit is a right or left 8 in a 4-3-3 that asks for combination play and late runs, or the more advanced of a 4-2-3-1 double pivot. At 178 cm and 67 kg he is not a duel-first 6, and nothing in the available data supports using him as one.

Comparable pathways. Kodai Sano moved from Fagiano Okayama in J2 to NEC in 2023 at 19, off a lower-division starting role rather than J1 minutes, and established himself in the Eredivisie. That shows a club can buy a Japanese midfielder on second-tier evidence and have it work, not that the route works reliably; the success cases are the ones that get cited. A Kawasaki precedent is Ao Tanaka (田中碧), who left for Fortuna Düsseldorf on loan in 2021 as a J1 regular with a title-winning season behind him. Ozeki would leave with his strongest season in J3.
